Welcome to Pre Kindergarten!

Pre-Kindergarten

Biography

I taught both 2nd grade and Kindergarten before switching to Pre-Kindergarten in 2019 at Walnut Hill. This allows me to understand the goals my students are striving to achieve to help them along their academic and social/emotional path. I truly love my work, and I constantly strive to provide meaningful experiences and developmentally appropriate education to all the students in our class. We are an inclusive classroom which provides a wonderful environment for the growth of all our children. I set a goal for myself to provide each student in my classroom what he or she needs to learn in multiple areas in a safe, kind, and joyful environment.

In my home life, I am a Mom to three delightful adult children. Dylan, 28, is a pharmacist at Madonna Rehabilitation in Lincoln. Eli, 25, is a Computer Analyst and lives 5 minutes from my home. Delani, 21, attends Metro Community College for Culinary Arts & Management and lives 15 minutes from my home. We get together frequently and normally take a family trip during the summer to stay connected.

 Academics

We use Teaching Strategies GOLD as our curriculum and assessment tool.  The GOLD curriculum revolves around several "studies" with topics such as Trees, Buildings, Balls, Cars, Clothing, and Gardening.  While exploring each Study with the children, we are observing and recording their performance level on the Objectives for Development and Learning established by TS GOLD.  These objectives are developmentally appropriate skills and knowledge that grow with the children.  We record our observations of the children working and playing and use this data to place each child on a level for each objective. Parents are welcome to see reports on their child's levels anytime. These levels clearly show where a child is developing well, and where he or she needs scaffolding or help.  I hope that visitors to the classroom will be able to see what we are studying when they walk through the door, since our books, art, shared writing and other activities are planned to advance our students' understanding of our topic.

No Excuses University

Each classroom at Walnut Hill has adopted a college or university as a way to encourage our students to be college and career bound. Our classroom is lucky enough to have Omaha's own Creighton University as our adopted college.
