Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!
My name is Megan Calderon. This is my 8th year teaching at Walnut Hill. I got my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University. I have a Master's Degree in Literacy and an ESL endorsement from Concordia University. Currently, I am working on my Early Childhood Endorsement at Creighton University. I believe that you can never stop learning! I stay very busy with a 3 year old son, an 11 month old, and two dogs at home!
Each classroom at Walnut Hill has adopted a college or university to encourage our students to be college and career bound. Our classroom is lucky enough to have the University of Minnesota as our adopted college. You can find more information about the Minnesota Gophers here.
Here are our second grade focuses this year:
Math: Place Value, addition/subtraction, measurement, data, and shapes
Science: Plants and animals, erosion, land forms, and matter
Reading: LOTS of phonic skills, sight words, and comprehension skills
Writing: narratives, nonfiction, letters, poetry, and opinion writing
Social Studies: communities, history, needs/wants, and goods/services
